Jefferson County is one of the most diversified counties in its production of agricultural products in West Virginia. The Extension Program emphasizes the support of more traditional agricultural enterprises such as beef, dairy, swine, crop production, farm management, and marketing. Commercial production of small and tree fruits is supported through the WVU Experiment Farm just west of Kearneysville on Rt. 9.

Through the WVU Extension Office here in Jefferson County, many questions related to home horticulture, including insect and disease problems, are answered. An annual publication distributed throughout the county is the Garden Calendar. Soil testing is also available at only the cost of postage. You are encouraged to contact us!

There are many Web sites that provide information on agricultural subjects. Each one has many fact sheets, newsletters, and other resources that can provide information that complements and enhances what is available through West Virginia University and WVU’s Agriculture and Natural Resources information portal and the eXtension resource site. All told, the links on this page should help you find a world of information on Agriculture and Natural Resources.
